Hiring an Interior Designer How does it work?
In the initial conversation we listen to your needs and determine the scope of work, deadline, and budget. After meeting with you we suggest products and propose an estimate for your approval. Work begins with a signed contract and deposit.
At what stage should I hire an interior designer?
We suggest you hire your interior designer in the earliest stages of planning. This will save you costly mistakes and headaches.
Do I need to use your builder or architect?
Not at all, but if you need one we have established a rapport with some of the finest architects and builders in the area. A team approach provides the best end result.
Why do I need an interior designer if I already have an architect/ builder?
For the best design possible, we propose you work with an interior designer, architect and contractor as a team. You will learn that while the architect designs the home and the contractor builds it, we as the interior designer bring an additional dimension to your project. We assist in selection of countertops, flooring, wall surfaces, fixtures, and avoid errors that they may have been overlooked, also look at furniture placement to enhance your use of space and room flow. A great example would be the perfect place for a dining chandelier is not always in the center of the room.
What is your design style?
We do not have an exact design style. Our design always reflects the client for whom we are designing as every client has an individual style to achieve. We enjoy working in partnership with the client giving them the choices for each design decision, so they may be part of the design solution. When they choose not to be part of the design process, we are happy to make the decisions for them.
What cities do you work in?
While most of the residences we have designed are along The Grand Strand, in Pawleys Island and Litchfield, we have had the opportunity to work on clients’ homes throughout the lowcountry of South Carolina, the Upstate, the Pee Dee Region, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Maryland, Chicago, Tennessee and more. We have found many times working with clients on their vacation homes has progressed to helping them with their main residences throughout the United States. It no longer surprises us when clients residing overseas call seeking assistance for their homes in our area.
How do you charge?
For the client who desires a small amount of assistance, we offer an hourly consultation fee. In the planning stages of larger projects our charge begins with an hourly consultation and progresses into a cost plus fee.
Do I have to make purchases through you?
We would love for you to make purchases through us, but we do not require it. We offer the best product for the price available. Furthermore, most clients do purchase through us because of the value offered. Additionally, if we do not have what is needed, we help find the perfect piece.
How long does a project take?
The length of a project depends on the scope of work. It is very difficult to put an estimated time on new construction, but in most cases it requires a minimum of 6 months. When ordering furniture, our suppliers usually estimate 68 weeks from date of order. Wallpaper can be installed in as little time as 1 week. Many consultations can be done in as little as one hour.
Do I have to use your services for everything, or just as needed?
As interior designers, “we are as flexible as a rubber band.” We are willing to put our design skills to use in whatever way you require. If you would like for us to choose paint colors initially and return for furniture replacement, we are happy to do so. We can also assist with designing your home in the blueprint stage to placement of dishes in the cupboard.
